Rescue story
Nellie is Gertie's daughter, and the two of them came here from Georgia together as part of a group of eight. Their owner hit a season of hard times and could not carry them any longer. Instead of letting them go without, she surrendered all eight to us so they could stay together and be cared for. That took more love than most people would manage. Gertie is our oldest resident, in her late forties. Nellie has appointed herself the one who looks after her. She stays close, she keeps watch, and she has never needed anyone to ask her to do it. Connected at the hip is the only way to describe those two. That is how they came to us and that is how they will stay.
